Brightline announces a new train station in Cocoa, following the city's $5 million commitment towards the project, with plans to offer additional transportation to Port Canaveral

Brightline, the high-speed rail service, is set to enhance its Florida route with a new station in Brevard County, specifically near State Road 528 and U.S. 1 in Cocoa. This development follows the city's commitment of $5 million towards the project, reflecting a strong partnership between the city and the rail company. Mayor Michael C. Blake emphasized the station's potential to significantly boost the local economy by improving accessibility to the Space Coast for both residents and visitors.

While the construction timeline remains under discussion, the initiative has garnered support from various stakeholders, including Port Canaveral, which anticipates the station will offer an additional transportation option for its over seven million annual passengers. The project aligns with Brightline’s expansion strategy, which recently included launching the Orlando to Miami service and adding stops in Stuart and Martin County.

The Cocoa station is poised to serve not only as a transit hub but also as a gateway to local attractions like Port Canaveral, Kennedy Space Center, and Cocoa Beach. The Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization has pledged $15.5 million in federal grants towards the station, with additional funding anticipated from Brevard County's tourist development tax. This collective effort marks a transformative step for Cocoa, aiming to foster economic growth and enhance regional connectivity.
