Strategic Property Partners LLC (SPP) has announced plans for three new developments as part of the expanding Water Street Tampa project. These additions include a residential condominium tower, a build-to-suit office complex, and an entertainment destination designed to enhance the vibrancy of the area.
The new residential and office towers will occupy an extension of Water Street, situated north of the 900 and 1000 blocks of E. Cumberland Ave. The entertainment hub, located just north of Amalie Arena between S. Morgan St and S. Jefferson St, will feature a select service hotel, an event parking garage, and a variety of entertainment venues, retail spaces, and restaurants, creating a unique complement to the arena.
SPP CEO Josh Taube expressed excitement about the plans, stating, "We look forward to capitalizing on the energy of Amalie Arena and creating a preeminent retail and entertainment destination for the Tampa region." The new entertainment complex will include a live performance venue and new restaurants, enhancing the already vibrant scene.
The residential condominium tower will become the tallest building at Water Street Tampa, providing additional residential options to complement existing developments like Asher, Cora, and Heron. Designed by Gensler with Nichols Architects acting as architect of record, the new tower will add another dimension to North America's first WELL "Gold" Certified Community. Additionally, SPP is considering introducing a new club concept with a focus on social and fitness activities.
The build-to-suit office complex will include ground-floor retail and green space, fostering a pedestrian-friendly environment. This project aims to attract top companies to Tampa's West Coast, building on the success of Thousand & One, the inaugural office building of Water Street Tampa. The design for the office complex, created by Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF), showcases the scale and opportunity available to corporate entities.
Infrastructure work for these additions is already underway, with completion expected by spring 2025. The new developments will enhance connectivity between Downtown and Ybor City, while also providing vibrant green spaces for open-air markets, concerts, and other outdoor activities along Water Street.
Water Street Tampa has recently received the 2023 America's Award for Excellence from the Urban Land Institute, highlighting its successful public-private partnership. Known for its global innovation, the project is the world's first WiredScore SmartScore Pre-certified Neighborhood and was recently named one of the "World's Greatest Places" for 2023 by TIME.
